Deco fireplace with carved birds, 55-C
These are some of my latest fireplaces...
each one is different, reflecting the lifestyles and home design of my clients. The fireplaces are all custom pieces, specially created for their individual tastes.

Some of these photos are of works in progress, or taken during installation.

Limestone ball and arrow design

Arrow Folds:  The legs of this fireplace are carved with a stylized crown shape. You'll note this shape in the marble Salon fireplace below, which is for the same home. It also appears on the chimneys outside the home.     46-C

geometric carved patterns

This fireplace is carved in Indiana limestone. The family crest in the center panel of this fireplace is in front of a field of a geometric folded arrow pattern. The balls on top of the legs are also hand carved. These photos were taken in my studio. before shipping I set it up to check the precise fit and to take these photos.

Large marble and limestone fireplace

Salon fireplace in Rosso Alicante marble and Blanco do Mar limestone. In this photo this large fireplace, measuring 8' x 8' (2.4 M) is laying on the shop floor. The center panel, which features two lions and a shield, is not shown in this picture.  47-C

Lions and family crest

Rampant lions with a family crest: This is part of the center panel for the fireplace at the left. You'll note that in this photo I hadn't yet finished the lion on the left side of the panel. Taped to the stone are drawings of lions and lion anatomy, references to help in the carving. The chisels below the stone are the tools I use for this work.

Tudor fireplace with octagon columns

Shell Tudor: This Tudor fireplace features octagon columns and a carved center panel. The photo was taken in my studio, and I modified the computer image to show the client how the tile hearth and inner surround would look.   43-R

A dragon peers from its shipping crate, ready for transit to Denver. I pack everything carefully and ship with full insurance via specialized carriers on air-ride trucks. Everything is handled very carefully.

Dragon climbing on carved books © Walter S. Arnold

This fireplace is installed in the library of a Denver home, and the dragons are climbing on stacks of carved books. I designed it after meeting with the client and her architect, and discussing her tastes and personal style.

Chimney panel

Chimney panel: This panel, in antiqued Texas limestone, was installed on the chimney of a new Michigan home. It measures 19" x 26", and the design was based on a favorite piece of heirloom jewelry.
