Winged Victory of Samothrace. Cast resin with gold leaf. Standing nearly 8' tall, on a 7' tall granite base, this sculpture is installed in the lobby of the BankOne building in downtown Chicago. It is a second generation cast of the famous Nike sculpture in the Louvre Museum in Paris. I had access to a first generation cast, (a cast taken directly from the original, made at least 80 years ago), and was able to get a mold from that one. Therefore, it picked up all the fine, subtle detail of the original marble sculpture. A first or second generation cast is extremely accurate; later casts, which are further removed from the original, will lose detail and have lesser quality. Almost 4,000 leaves of 24k gold, applied by gilder Robert Frese, were required to cover this sculpture.

Vittoria Alata. Reproduction carved in Carrara Marble of a 2nd century Roman bronze winged victory. I created this 7'5" tall (225 cm) piece by studying the original in the Santa Giulia museum in Brescia, Italy. I have a page with more photos of this sculpture.
The Source.  This work was sculpted by the great American
sculptor, Frederick Hart. Working from Hart's original model, I was
commissioned by the Hart Estate to create the only two carvings of this sculpture
in fine Carrara marble. The Source stands about 5'5" tall (165 cm).
I worked with Hart many years ago as one of the carvers
who executed his Ex Nihilo sculpture over the West Front entrance of the Washington National Cathedral.
Memorial to the Cambodian HolocaustCambodian Memorial. This memorial, created for the Cambodian Association of Illinois, is part of their new Cambodian American Heritage Museum and Killing Fields Memorial. This is the first memorial in America to the genocide of 1975-1979, when between 1.7 and 3 million people lost their lives. Dedicated in September 2004, it stands 9' tall and is designed to be a fountain, with water cascading over this slate and marble stele. It is flanked by 80 glass columns etched with the names of thousands of victims. The museum and memorial are part of a community center and will also include a research center, senior center, after school activities and adult education classes.
Mother and child - memorial to a cancer victimMother and Child. Installed at a school in Riverside, Illinois, this limestone mother and child statue is a memorial to the struggle of this young woman against cancer, and a reminder of her inspiration to the community.
Lobby sculpture, telamones, house of blues hotel These are Telamones. A Telamone is the male counterpart of a Caryatid, the large figures which held up the roofs on some classical Greek temples. These four stand 12-1/2' tall (3.8 meters) and are in the lobby of the House of Blues Hotel, a Lowes Hotel, in Chicago. They are cast in fiberglass with a sandstone-like finish, from my original 20" (51 cm) carved limestone model. Telamones- House of Blues Hotel
Large abstract fountain figure I'm standing next to the finished sculpture Woman. This abstract figure stands 12' (3.6 m) tall, and will be in the center of a fountain. It is cast in fiberglass. I first carved the small model shown below. That was used to create a full sized foam model, from which the mold was made. The fiberglass was then cast in the mold. The water flow from the fountain wil spray onto the sculpture; the entire surface is textured so the water will sparkle as it flows down the form.
Limestone maquette for large sculpture Limestone model for abstract sculpture The limestone model is 14" (35 cm) tall, one tenth of the size of the final sculpture.

Standing by the completed fountainFinished carving of lions headLion Niches  I carved two of these large niche fountains for the entry to a Wisconsin estate.

Marble stegosaurus sculptureStegosaurus. I carved a fossil skeleton of a dinosaur in a 1400 lb (600kg) slab of  Bardiglio Imperiale marble, a gray marble from Carrara, Italy. You can see the work in progress, and the finished sculpture, on my stegosaurus page. Carving the fossil
