Over the years I've carved quite a lot of religious sculpture, for churches, synagogues and individuals. Here is a selection of that work...

Medieval style Crucifixion sceneGarden shrineA Bildstock is a small roadside shrine or chapel. They are common in Central Europe, especially Austria and Germany. A client asked me to carve this one for their garden. It stands 5'6" tall (1.6 m) I tried to achieve a late medieval look in this piece, with hand tooled textures.
Farohar- Zoroastrian guardian angel The Farohar is a Zoroastrian guardian spirit. This panel includes an inscription in English and Persian with the three tenets of Good Thoughts, Good Words and Good Deeds, as well as the Roman Numerals symbolizing the Ten Commandments.
Dove of the Holy SpiritThis dove, carved for the Church of the Holy Comforter in Kenilworth, Illinois, was dedicated for the 100th anniversary of the church. This is a blind tracery panel (gothic tracery molding with a solid background, rather than framing a window). The background is carved with clouds so the dove appears to be descending from the heavens and alighting on the worshipers.
Angel with TrumpetI carved this angel for the columbarium at Trinity Episcopal Church in Highland Park, Illinois.
The design was based on the stained glass windows in the chapel and the tracery on their main altar.
Synagogue corner stoneThis cornerstone was carved for Beth Shalom Synagogue in Chicago's western suburbs.
Madonna del CarmelloCarved in white statuary marble, this figure of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is just 22" tall (56 cm). I carved her when I was 21 years old, during my apprenticeship in Italy.
You can send a free virtual e-mail postcard of this sculpture to your friends.
MenorahThis Menorah, or Hannukiah, has the traditional design of the lions of Judah and the tablets of the 10 commandments. Cast reproductions of this piece, and other carved Menorahs, are available. Write for more info.
St. Peter Niche plinth I worked on the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. for five years. This carving on the left is the pedestal for a statue of St. Peter at the West Front entrance of the Cathedral. On the right is a seasons greetings card, carved on the North West portal of the Cathedral. Seasons Greetings Card
Washington Cathedral boss stonesWorking on scaffolding 80 feet (25 m.) above ground, I carved these boss stones (key stones in the vaulted ceiling), in place on the Washington Cathedral.
Bronze angelThis angel, cast in bronze, is also on my postcard page.  I made a second cast of this piece, which is available for purchase.
